SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College softball team completed a weekend sweep of Liberty League foe St. Lawrence after 7-1 and 10-2 wins on Saturday afternoon at Alexander field. With the pair of wins the Dutchwomen improve to 10-8 while the Saints drop to 5-11.
In game one,
Allyson Staats picked up her sixth win of the season after pitching seven innings and allowing only one run and three hits while striking out four.
St. Lawrence jumped out to a lead in the third inning thanks to a passed ball. Union rectified their mistake in the third when
Joanna Chalifoux homered to bring home Staats and
Alyssa Wolejko. Union tacked on two more in the inning to take a 5-1 lead. After tacking on two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, Staats and the Dutchwomen shut down the Saints in the bottom of the inning to secure the 7-1 victory.
In game two, Wolejko pitched five innings, allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out five.
Union jumped out to the early lead thanks to a Staats grand slam that scored Wolejko,
Aimee Palleschi and
Dani Hennel. St. Lawrence put two on the board in the bottom of the first but were unable to score again. The Dutchwomen tacked on five more runs in the third fourth and fifth innings, including a solo home run by
Lindsay Cohen to earn a 10-2 victory.
In total the Dutchwomen tallied three home runs, 15 hits and 15 runs batted in on the day. Staats led the Dutchwomen with five RBIs.
Union is back in action on Tuesday when they host Castleton State for a double header at Alexander Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
