SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Aimee Palleschi and
Camille Corbin recorded homers as the Dutchwomen split their Saturday double header with Rochester at Alexander Field with scores of 1-8 and 8-3. With the split, the Dutchwomen are now 16-9 on the season while Rochester is 15-9.
Palleschi's solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning was the only run the Dutchwomen tacked on in game one. Wolejko and Corbin also recorded hits but Rochester overpowered the Dutchwomen as Korn led the way with three hits including a two run home run and three runs batted in.
Wolejko pitched all seven innings for the Dutchwomen, allowing eight runs, seven of them earned while striking out four and walking three to fall to 8-5 on the season. B. Grage picked up her eighth win of the season by throwing a complete game with seven strikeouts and allowing only one earned run.
In game two, Rochester took the early lead thanks to RBIs by Korn on a double and a solo home run. After three innings the YellowJackets led 3-0. The Dutchwomen came storming back thanks to a five run bottom of the fifth that was highlighted by Corbin's three-run home run that gave the Dutchwomen a 5-3 lead. Union tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth as the Dutchwomen shut down the YellowJacket's offense by not allowing a single run in the final four innings.
Palleschi, Corbin and
Dani Hennel each recorded two hits while Wolejko,
Lindsay Cohen,
Laura Aptowitz,
Molly O'Brien and
Brianna Godlewski each recorded one.
Allyson Staats picked up her seventh win of the season after tossing all seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three batters. E. Weschsler fell to 7-3 on the season after allowing six runs, two of them earned in four innings of work. Grage made her second appearance on the mound in game two as she pitched the fifth and sixth innings, allowing two runs with one earned.
The Dutchwomen return to action on Tuesday when they travel to SUNY Oneonta for a double header at 3:30 p.m.
