Union Hands St. John Fisher 10-7 Loss

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Union jumped out to a big lead and held on to defeat St. John Fisher, 10-7, in a non-conference game held at Frank Bailey Field.  The victory was Union's eighth straight, as the Dutchmen improved to 8-1 overall.  SJF fell to 4-4.

Jon Andrews led the offensive attack with four points, including three goals.  Richard Gregory was Union's other multiple-goal scorer, adding a pair of markers as part of a three-point day.  Union also received goals from Jake Quinn, Nolan Stauffer, Kyle Mason, Adam Rosenthal and Peter Richardson.

The "U" opened a 4-0 lead after the first quarter, as goalkeeper Stefan Basile kept the Cardinals in check.  Tim Wagner scored on the man-advantage to put SJF on the board at 12:21 of the second quarter.  Basile finished with nine saves and five ground balls.

Union built a 6-1 halftime lead and increased the cushion to seven goals when Richardson scored with 5:02 left in the third quarter to give the Dutchmen their largest lead of the game at 9-2.

St. John Fisher made a late surge from that point, out-scoring Union, 5-1, and posting three goals in the fourth quarter.  Michael Russell scored twice in a span of 1:03 before Union headed off the threat.  SJF finished with three extra-man goals on the day.

The 10th-ranked Dutchmen resume Liberty League action this Saturday, traveling to Clarkson.
