SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College baseball senior pitcher
Andrew Beaule tossed a nine-inning complete game in a 10-2 victory over Middlebury on Wednesday afternoon at Central Park. With the win the Dutchmen improve to 16-6-1 on the year while Middlebury falls to 4-16.
Beaule improved to 2-1 on the season after allowing two runs of which one was earned in nine innings of work. He was efficient, allowing just five hits and walking two batters while striking out five.
After a scoreless first inning, the Dutchmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. After freshman
Jake Fishman singled and was later caught in a rundown,
Eric Egan walked for the Dutchmen. Senior infielder
Joe Bradlee doubled to left center field to score Egan for the first run of the game. Junior shortstop
Anders Goetz singled through the right side to score Bradlee after junior catcher C.J. Worley popped up to the second baseman. Senior captain
Vincent Esposito finished off the inning by singling to left center to score Goetz.
Middlebury would answer in the top of the third when M. Leach scored on an error by senior infielder
David Peretti off a ground ball by J. Read. Union would widen their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third when Fishman laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line to score senior outfielder
Sam Caruso.
Union tacked on two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth thanks to two-run RBIs by
Vincent Esposito and
Joe Bradlee. Bradlee also scored in the fifth thanks to a passed ball.
Middlebury would add their only other run in the top of the sixth when J. MacDonald singled to left field to score Kelly.
The final run of the game came off the stick of freshman
Ryan McGeown-Conron, who recorded his first career run batted in.
Fishman (3-3, run scored and RBI) and Worley (3-4, run scored) led the offense for the Dutchmen. Egan, Bradlee and Esposito also had two hit games. Goetz, Caruso, sophomore
Chris Carbone and junior
Ryan Atkins also recorded hits. Esposito and Bradlee each had three runs batted in. Caruso also swiped two bags for the Dutchmen.
While Beaule pitched all nine innings, Middlebury used seven different pitchers in the contest. Sawyer Olson fell to 0-2 on the year after allowing three earned runs in the first two innings.
The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday when they host Liberty League foe Vassar for a double header at 1 p.m.
