OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Union College men's soccer team started the 2014 season strong with a 5-0 showing over Hilbert College Friday evening on the campus of Oswego State. Junior
Nicholas Hall-Risko netted two goals to pace the Dutchmen.
Hall-Risko got the Dutchmen off to a quick start in 2014 as he laced a ball from the top of the box just underneath the crossbar to give Union an early 1-0 lead at the three-minute mark. 21-minutes later sophomore
Andrew Fontaine headed home the second goal of the game on the feed from junior
Sam Hunter.
Shortly after halftime, Hall-Risko tallied his second goal of the contest as he riffled home a shot from just inside the 18-yard mark. 15-minutes later Hunter scored from just outside the six-yard box to give Union the four-goal advantage.
The Dutchmen were not done scoring as scoring leader from a season ago, junior
Carl Faber, gave the Garnet and White the 5-0 final margin as he tapped in the ball on a throw in from classmate
Matthew Christal in the final minute of action.
Union outshot Hilbert 28-7 in the contest with a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. The Dutchmen also held the advantage in corners 8-3.
Junior goalkeeper
Ryan Carter registered his first clean sheet of the season as he made three saves in the win.
Union will be back in action tomorrow as they take on host Oswego State in the championship matchup. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 3pm.
