OSWEGO, N.Y. - Junior midfielder
Jeff Cohen and freshman forward
Ethan Strauss provided the offense for the Dutchmen on Saturday afternoon as Union defeated Oswego State 2-1 in championship match.
Strauss got the "U" on the board in the 19th minute off the feed from Cohen. Strauss redirected the shot from Cohen past the Lakers' goalkeeper to give Union (2-0) the early 1-0 lead.
In the 48th minute, Cohen found the back of the net for the Dutchmen.
Kyle Stengel crossed the ball right infront of the goal and Cohen knocked it in to give the Garnet and White the two goal edge.
Oswego St. (1-1) scored in 60th minute on a goal from Harrison Rieber to cut it to 2-1 Dutchmen. However, senior GK
Ryan Carter and the rest of the Union defense held the Lakers at bay for the remaining 30 minutes of action to hold on for the 2-1 final.
Carter made four saves in the contest and was named Tournament MVP. He allowed just one goal in the two wins over the weekend, making seven saves.
Also earning an All-Tournament nod was junior defensemen
Sam Hunter. Hunter anchored the stingy defensive unit and added a goal and an assist in the win over Hilbert.
Union will be back in action next weekend as they play in the MCLA CIAO Fall Classic.
