Volleyball Rallies From 2-0 Deficit to Win Third Place Game; Moeller named Most Outstanding Player

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Union College volleyball program earned a third place finish this weekend at the NYU Labor Day Invitational. Down two sets to none in the third place contest against Centre College, Union rallied to win the last three sets to come away with the win.

Sophomore Kat Moeller was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament as she registered 94 digs including a new career-high 33 against Centre.

The Dutchwomen suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday morning, losing to host New York University in three sets. Union got off to a sluggish start, dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16. They kept it close in the third but ultimately fell 25-21.

Rajpreet Dhaliwal posted a team-high seven kills and junior Rachel Wyman added five more to lead the "U". Junior Lauren Woods had a match-high three blocks and sophomore Amanda Price led the Dutchwomen in assists with nine. She added 10 digs.

With the loss, Union was relegated to the 3rd place match against Centre. The Dutchwomen found themselves in a hole early, falling behind 2-0 to the Colonels. But the Garnet and White battled back, winning the next three sets 25-8, 25-23 and 15-11 to place third in the tournament.

Wyman and Kelley White both recorded double-digit kills to carry the Dutchwomen. White led the match with five aces and was second in digs with 16. Both Price and Abigail Salamone dished out 14 assists.

Union will be back in action this Friday and Saturday as they play in the Bomber Invitational held at Ithaca College.
