Five Dutchmen Score as Men's Soccer Storms Past SUNY-Canton 6-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - After not scoring in back-to-back games, the Dutchmen offense exploded for six goals on Saturday afternoon as Union stormed past SUNY-Canton 6-0 to snap their four match winless streak. Five Dutchmen recorded a goal in the win led by two tallies by senior Kevin Janson.

Janson started the scoring brigade in the 18th minute as the senior knocked in the pass from the left side of the six-yard box on the great feed from Andrew Fontaine.

Fontaine made it 2-0 in the 35th minute as he dribbled past two defenders inside the 18 and fired it past the Canton goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.

The Dutchmen (3-3-1) held the two goal advantage until the 61st minute when Ethan Strauss used his nice footwork to get around the goalie and knock it into the empty net. Three minutes later, Janson found the back of the net for the second time on the day as he deflected in the ball after the corner kick.

Alex Kirsch made it 5-0 in the 72nd minute as he rifled it past the Kangeroo goalie. Kirsch was set up on the play by two terrific passes by Tyler DeWaltoff and Nicholas Hall-Risko. Hall-Risko sent it down the right side of the field to DeWaltoff who crossed it to Kirsch who was waiting just inside the 18-yard line to blast it into the back of the net.

Noah Altamirano provided the final blow for the Garnet and White as the rookie beat the Canton goalkeeper to the far post off the pass by Samuel Stein in the 88th minute for his first collegiate goal.

The Dutchmen outshot the Kangeroos 31-6 in the match and had nine corner kicks compared to just two by Canton (3-3).

Union will look to keep the momenteum going as they host New Paltz Wednesday night at College Park. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
