SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union's women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday evening, dropping a 1-0 non-conference contest to SUNY Brockport at College Park Field.
The 12th-ranked Dutchwomen (6-1) finished with a 27-10 advantage in total shots, but it was the Golden Eagles (5-1) who captalized late in the game.
Brockport's Chelsea Stahl won the battle for a loose ball at the top of the box, turned, and flicked a shot over the head of goalkeeper
Allison Brustowicz with 3:57 left in regulation. Stahl's game-winner was just the second shot on goal for Brockport, as the Golden Eagles didn't put a shot on net until the 82nd-minute mark.
Whitney Bickford (seven shots) and
Mollie Gilchrist (six shots) led the offensive attack for Union, which lost at home for just the third time since 2012.
Union opens Liberty League action this Tuesday, hosting Skidmore at 7 p.m.
