SCHENECTADY, NY -- Freshman midfielder
Allie Supranowicz scored the lone goal to lift the Union College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Rochester in the Union home opener at College Park Field Friday afternoon. The Dutchwomen are now 3-0 and Rochester fell to 2-1.
Supranowicz chipped a floating shot from along the goalline that went off the hands of the UR keeper and snuck inside the far post. It was her first goal of her Union career. Rochester had a chance to open the scoring five minutes into the second half and a point blank shot from inside the box by Jean Chakmakas was stopped by Union goalkeeper
Allison Brustowicz.
Other opportunities included a header by Union's
Whitney Bickford that was saved by UR's Aubrey Jaicks at the 26th minute. In a goal mouth scramble with 30 minutes left,
Sydney Keane took a shot that was stopped by Jaicks.
Rochester outshot the hosts, 17-11 and had a 5-1 corner kick advantage. Brustowicz made 10 saves and Jaicks stopped seven.
Union hosts Wilkes Saturday at 1 p.m. while Rochester faces UMass-Boston on the Union campus at 4 p.m.
