Union Suffers 3-2 Defeat at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. –  Freshman Carl Hesler's first collegiate goal with 1:27 left in regulation lifted Dartmouth to a 3-2 win over Union Saturday night at Thompson Arena.  Union finishes the ECAC Hockey weekend with a split of games, having won at Harvard on Friday.

The Big Green managed their second come-from-behind victory against Union this season, scoring twice in the third period, much like their earlier win in Schenectady.  This time Corey Kalik sparked the rally, tying the contest at 7:46 of the third, then assisting on Hesler's game-winner.

Union staked a 2-1 lead in the second period when Spencer Foo scored on the power play on assists from Matt Wilkins and Nick DeSimone.  The assist gave Wilkins his ninth point (2-7) in four games.

Union opened scoring in the first period when Max Novak jammed a shot under the pads of Charles Grant at the 9:35 mark.  It was Novak's first goal since Dec. 5. Dartmouth responded at 15:55 on Brad Schierhorn's wrister from the slot.  The Big Green posted a 20-8 shot advantage in the first period and nearly doubled the vistors in the game (41-22), a season-high total allowed by the Dutchmen.

Union continues ECAC Hockey play next Friday (Feb. 6), traveling to Clarkson.

Notes:
Goaltender Colin Stevens made his 18th start of the season and finished with a season-high 38 saves ... captain Charlie Vasaturo appeared in his 100th career game ... the Dutchmen are 2-8 in one-goal games.
