Union Hands Princeton 5-2 Defeat on the Road

PRINCETON, N.J. – Union won its fourth-straight game in league play with a 5-2 win over Princeton Friday evening at Hobey Baker Rink.  The Dutchmen also reached the .500 mark in ECAC Hockey for the first time this season (4-4-1), improving to 11-7-2 overall.

Daniel Ciampini scored twice, extending his goal-scoring streak to six games, and Mike Vecchione contributed three points (goal, two assists) for his 11th multiple-point effort of the season.  Union's top two forward lines figured in all five goals.

Uniion staked a 2-0 lead in the second period on Vecchione's 10th goal of the season, and later a power play tally from Ciampini.  The Dutchmen increased the cushion to 4-0 with two more goals in the third period.  Matt Wilkins scored short-handed 21 seconds in and Ciampini added his team-leading 14th goal on a one-timer in the slot.  In the process, he surpassed the the 50th-goal plateau for his career, reaching No. 51.

The Tigers fought back with a pair of quick strikes (scored less than two minutes apart) on shots from Ryan Berlin and Tucker Brockett.  Union's Ryan Scarfo, who earned ECACH Rookie of the Month honors for December, sealed the win with a one-timer between the circles with 3:16 left in regulation.

Colin Stevens made his first start of the calendar year and finished with 25 saves.

Union meets Quinnipiac Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
