CANTON, N.Y. - After rallying from a 2-0 halftime deficit to tie the match, the Union College field hockey team dropped a 3-2 Liberty League decision to host St. Lawrence (3-7, 1-2) at North Country Field Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It took a three-goal effort from Karla Pelosi in order to lift the Saints to the victory. Pelosi scored all three goals for the Saints as she upped her seasonal total to ten goals.
Pelosi gave the Saints a 1-0 lead when she scored on a back-handed shot midway through the first half. With just 2:52 remaining in the half, she scored on a deflection with an assist to Molly Wood as St. Lawrence upped its lead to 2-0.
With 19:32 left in regulation, the Dutchwomen started their comeback when Angelino Stewart scored off a pass from
Laura Pacheco. It was Stewart's third goal of the season while Pacheco recorded her fourth assist.
Less than a minute later, sophomore
Bretta Beer scored her fifth goal of the season off a pass from
Rachel Andreana assist to tie the game. It was Andreana's team-leading seventh assist of the season.
With the score tied a 2-2, Pelosi tallied the game-winner with 5:30 remaining and the Saints held on to win.
St. Lawrence outshot the Dutchwomen by a 24-14 margin. Junior goaleeper
Laura Aptowitz played for Union, making nine saves. Kim Habb had eight saves for the Saints.
Union (5-6, 0-3) returns to action on Tuesday when the Dutchwomen travel to William Paterson for a non-league contest at 7:00 p.m.
