UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, Pa. - Freshman goalkeeper
Melissa Black turned in an outstanding performance as she made 41 saves but the Union College women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Penn State in the first game of their two-game series at Pegula Ice Arena on Saturday night.
The Dutchwomen, who were outshot by a 44-11 margin, gave up a goal in each period as they fell to 0-2-2. Penn State upped its mark to 2-3-0.
Penn State took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Hannah Hoenshell scored her second goal of the season at 11:36. Shannon Voxheimer and Victoria Samuelsson assisted.
At 12:57 of the second period, Shannon Yoxheimer upped the lead to 2-0 when she scored her first goal of the year as Meike Meilleur and Samuelsson.
Laura Bowman closed out the scoring at 15:43 of the third period, tallying her third goal of the season off a pass from Amy Peterson.
The teams conclude their series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
