SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Senior
Laura Pacheco scored a pair of first half goals as she led Union College (6-9, 1-5) to a 2-1 victory over Vassar College (9-5, 2-3) in a Liberty League field hockey contest at Frank Bailey Field on Friday afternoon.
The Dutchwomen were outshot by a 29-9 margin but they received a strong effort from junior goalkeeper
Laura Aptowitz, who made 14 saves.
Pacheco gave Union a 1-0 lead when she scored her sixth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore
Rachel Andreana with 14:34 elapsed.
With 7:21 left in the first half, Pacheco scored her seventh goal of the year when she scored off a penalty corner as Andreana assisted again. Pacheco nailed a shot from 12 yards away.
The Dutchwomen, who earned their first Liberty League win of the year, protected that lead until midway through the second half. With 11:11 remaining in regulation, Bianca Zarella got Vassar on the scoreboard when she scored off a rebound.
However, Aptowitz made three saves in the final minutes as Union held on for the win.
Union returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Dutchwomen host Babson College.
