Dutchwomen lose to #12 Babson 4-1 on Senior Day

SCHENECTADY, NY --  Stacy Swallow scored two goals  to lead #12 Babson College to a 4-1 victory over Union College at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday night. The Beavers improved to 16-2 for the year while the Dutchwomen are now 6-10.

The game marked the final field hockey home contest for Union's Laura Pacheco, the lone senior on the squad.

Babson outshot Union, 20-18 and had a 19-10 corners advantage. Laura Aptowitz made eight saves for the hosts while Kayla Costa stopped eight Union shots.

The Beavers opened the scoring at 24:28, when Julie Mortimer passed across the crease to an open Elizabeth Holmes, who tucked it in inside the left post for her team leading 15th goal of the season.

At 32:04, Pacheco had a shot from approximately 15 yard out that went wide. Aptowitz made a save through traffic on a shot from Lauren Drakeley with 37 seconds remaining in the first half. Babson took a 1-0 lead into the half with a 12-3 shot advantage and 11-1 in corners.

With 28:46 remaining in the second half, after a second straight Union corner, the Dutchwomen tied it at 1-1. Angelina Stewart scored her fourth of the season close in front with an assist from Alexa Steriti. But the Beavers regained the lead at 43:55. Victoria Spofford found Staci Swallow at the right post and Swallow made it 2-1 with her fifth of the fall.

The Beavers added insurance at 46:22 on Catherine Gilman's eighth of the year, assisted by Swallow, who fed from the end line in tight. It became 4-1 on Swallow's second of the day and sixth of the season at 47:58 on a cross pass from Elizabeth Holmes. Union outshot the Beavers 14-6 in the second half.

Union wraps up the 2015 season at Cortland Saturday.
