Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

RIT wins in Union's home opener, 3-1

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Rochester Institute of Technology scored two third period goals en route to a 3-1 non-league women's ice hockey victory over Union College at Messa Rink Friday afternoon. The Tigers improved to 2-4 on the season while the Dutchwomen fell to 0-4-2.

RIT had a 31-21 shot advantage, and Union's Melissa Black made 28 saves while RIT's Jenna DeGonge stopped 20. The Dutchwomen won 38 of the 61 faceoffs on the day.

Union opened the scoring when Jessica Kaminsky notched her first goal of the season just 3:49 into the contest. Brandy Streeter and Kathryn Davis both were credited with assists on the score. Kaminsky scored from in close to the left of DeGonge. The lead held up until 15:22 of the second period, when Caitlin Wallace got her first of the season with assists from Taylor Thurston and Cassie Clayton.

Kendall Cornine then gave the Tigers the lead for good banging in a rebound inside the left post from Mallory Rushton just 1:36 into the third. Carly Payerl's second of the year came on an empty netter outside the Union blueline with Jess Paton feeding the play with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.

The teams meet again on Saturday at Messa Rink at 3 p.m.
