New Hampshire defeats #18 Union, 5-2

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team scored four straight goals for a come from behind 5-2 victory over #18 Union College at Messa Rink Saturday night. UNH improved to 2-2-1 and broke a three-game losing series losing streak against Union. The Dutchmen lost for the first time in six games (2-1-3).

It was only the second time Union lost to a Hockey East school in the last 17 games. The Dutchmen outshot the Wildcats, 36-28. Adam Clark made 34 saves, including 15 in the second period for UNH, while Jake Kupsky made 23 stops.

Spencer Foo gave the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead on the power play at 4:25 into the first period. Brett Supinski fed Foo in the circle to the left of the UNH net and he slapped in his second of the year. Dan Correale tied it for UNH at 9:13 when he deposited a rebound from the right doorstep for his fifth of the season. Tyler Kelleher and Cameron Marks had the assists. Union took a 2-1 lead at 15:37 of the first on Ryan Scarfo's third goal. Connor Light and Noah Henry had the passes at the blueline and Scarfo scored from close in front.

UNH tied it at 2-2 at 5:06 of the second stanza. A long shot from Union on the left point went wide and was picked up on the far boards by a rushing Maxim Gaudreault, who broke in alone for his fourth of the year. Then, 5:22 later, Tyler Kelleher got a pass from Andrew Poturalski from across the crease and tucked it in inside the left post for his third goal and a 3-2 Wildcat lead. Poturalski made it 4-2 59 seconds into the third period when he held the puck and drew the defense and goaltender out before scoring his third. Kelleher and Matias Cleland assited. Richard Boyd provided the final with an empty netter with two minutes to play in the third period, with assists from Chris Miller and Cameron Marks.

Union closes out the season opening seven game homestand Friday night as the Dutchmen open ECAC Hockey play against RPI at 7 p.m. at Messa Rink. Union will play the first road game Saturday at RPI.
