Dutchmen Take On RPI in Crosstown Showdown

SCHENECTADY, NY-- Union College continues its 2015-16 campaign against conference foe and crosstown rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on October 30 at 7 p.m., at home and October 31 at 7 p.m. on the road 

SCOUTING RPI
RPI faces Union for the first night of a back-to-back series weekend. The Dutchmen head to the Houston Field House tomorrow night for Union's first road game of the season. These two teams will meet in the annual Mayor's Cup Game at the Times Union Center in Albany in a non-league game on January 23. 

The Engineers enter the weekend with a 1-4-0 mark, including a victory at home over then #1 Boston College, 2-1 on Oct. 11. Evan Tironese has a goal and four assists and Riley Bourbonnais has three scores while Mike Prapavessis has dished out three helpers. Bourbonnais has two power play tallies. Jason Kasdorf has a 3.05 GAA and a save percentage of .916. He made 47 saves in the 4-2 loss at Alaska-Fairbanks on Oct. 17 and stopped 36 in the win vs. BC and 35 in a 3-0 loss at UMass Lowell.

RPI was 12-26-3 last season but got hot in the ECAC Hockey First Round, winning the best-two-of-three series at Clarkson before losing at St. Lawrence in the Quarterfinals. 

SERIES AGAINST THE ENGINEERS
RPI is 32-31-9 against Union in Union's Division I era since December 27, 1991. The Dutchmen had won 10 straight in the series from November of 2011 through November of 2013. RPI has won three of the last four, but the Dutchmen claimed their second Capital District Mayor's Cup victory with an 8-3 win at the Times Union Center on January 24 of last season. In front of a Mayor's Cup record crowd of 8,714, the Dutchmen exploded for six third period goals to erase a second intermission deficit. Daniel Ciampini scored a hat trick with three assists and Mike Vecchione had two goals and three assists in the third annual event. Matt Wilkins had four assists and Colin Stevens made 10 saves as the Dutchmen outshot the Engineers, 31-13.
