Dutchwomen Fall to Brown

SCHENECTADY, NY—The Union College women's hockey team outshot Brown 38-30, ultimately fell 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Messa Rink.

Both teams were scoreless in the first period, even though Union tallied 11 shots, while Brown posted 12.

In the second period, Union outshot Brown 13-12, although Brown was able to poke in a goal. After 13:22, Maddie Woo took a shot from the left side of the net. Melissa Black made a block off her right side which ricocheted to Erin Conway who forced it in behind Black's right leg.

Union entered the third period trailing 1-0, but tied with 24 shots. Just four minutes into the period, Samantha Swanstrom took it behind the net and passed it off to Cara Najjar. Najjar found Kelly Micholson in front of the net who delivered it back to Swanstrom on the outside left of the goal. Swanstrom poked it in past Black's right leg to make it a 2-0 game.

Black tallied 28 saves including 12 and 11 in the first and second period, respectively. Brown goaltender, Julianne Landry produced 38 saves, including 13 and 14 in the second and third. Emily Erickson posted six shots in the game, while Katie Laughlin and Jacyn Reeves both tallied five. 

Union takes on Yale tomorrow at 3 p.m., at Messa Rink.
