Dutchwomen Salvage 3-3 Tie at Brown with Late Comeback

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Union College Dutchwomen scored twice in the final seven minutes of the third period to erase a 3-1 deficit to come away with a 3-3 tie at Brown on Friday night. Kathryn Tomaselli, Christine Valente and Jessica Kaminsky netted goals for Union in the contest.

Shenae Lundberg made 27 saves, including six in overtime, giving her 1,007 saves on the season. Lundberg is just the second goalie in Union women's hockey history to eclipse the 1,000-saves plateau in a single season. Lundy Day had 1,181 and 1,081 in back to back seasons during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 campaigns. The Peterborough, NH native now sits just 80 saves shy of the 3,000-saves mark with three games remaining on the year.

Tomaselli began the scoring on the night, registering her team-leading ninth-goal of the season at the 8:57 mark of the opening stanza. Rebecca Babiak picked up the lone assist on the goal.

Brown responded with three unanswered goals, one in each period, to stake claim to a 3-1 lead with 17:37 remaining in regulation.

Valente cut the Bears lead to one goal as she scored off the feeds of Kaminsky and Kelly McGrath with 6:33 left on the clock. Less than two minutes later, Kaminsky potted the equalizer from Tomaselli to complete the comeback.

During the extra session, Hannah Erickson was whistled for a costly cross checking penalty to give Brown a man advtange with 3:46 to play. BU totaled eight shots during the powerplay but the Dutchwomen defense was up to the task as Lundberg made three saves and the defensive line blocked four shots to kill off the penalty.

For the third straight game the Garnet and White won the faceoff battle, going 27-25. Babiak was an impressive 8-3 while Valente went 14-10.

Union will wrap up their final road trip of the season tomorrow afternoon with a rematch against Yale. The puck will drop at 4:00pm.
