Union Shutout at Colgate, 2-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Union suffered its third consecutive shutout loss with a 2-0 setback to Colgate Friday night in ECAC Hockey action from Starr Rink.  The Dutchmen, who haven't scored in 181:01 minutes, saw their overall record drop to below .500 for the first time this season. With the win, Colgate swept the season series.

Colgate did all its damage in the first period, striking just 53 seconds into the game on Tyson Spink's 11th goal of the season. The goal resulted from a two-on-one rush after Kyle Braun stole the puck at mid-ice.

The Raiders went up 2-0 at 14:05 when Joe Wilson banked a shot from along the goal line off the pads of goaltender Colin Stevens.

Union's best scoring chance occurred midway through the second period when Connor Light's shot off the left boards ricochetd past goaltender Charlie Finn.  The goal was waved off by the on-ice officials after Union was called for a delayed offsides. Finn finished with 35 saves to tied a school season record with his NCAA-leading sixth shutout of the season.

The "U" finished with a 35-28 shot advantage as Michael Pontarelli (five shots) and Roman Ammirato (four shots) led the Garnet offensively.

Union continues its western New York roadtrip tomorrow night at Cornell (7:00 p.m.).

Notes:
Stevens started his sixth-straight game in goal .. for the second straight game, defensemen Jeff Taylor and Sebastien Gingras did not play because of injuries.
