Lundberg Notches 3,000th Career Save on Senior Day

SCHENECTADY, NY- The Union College Dutchwomen closed out the 2014-15 season on Saturday afternoon, losing to Cornell 4-0. Following the game, Union honored their six seniors (Shenae Lundberg, Kelly McGrath, Bryanne Panchuk, Alex Tancrell-Fontaine, Haley Welch and Christine Valente) with a post game ceremony with family and friends.

Lundberg recorded her 3,000th career save early in the second period, becoming the 21st member of NCAA Women's Hockey 3,000 saves club. Lundberg made 33 saves in the contest to give her 1,110 on the season, a mark that ranks second in school history and sixth in NCAA history with saves made in a single season. The Peterborough, NH native finishes her career with 3,023 career stops, currently placing her 20th all-time.

Hanna Bunton put the Big Red in front five minutes into the contest as she scored on the powerplay. Ten minutes later, Jillian Saulnier increased the Cornell lead to 2-0 off the feeds from Emily Fulton and Morgan Richardson.

With just 25 seconds remaining in the second, Brianne Jenner dished the puck back to Erin O'Conner who beat Lundberg through the five-hole to make it 3-0 Big Red. Saulnier added her second goal of the contest just 1:49 into the final period to provide the 4-0 final margin.

Union was outshot 37-25 in the finale as Cornell controlled possession in the final stanza, outshooting the Garnet and White 16-6. Junior Jamie Smith, making her first start of the season, recorded a season-high six shots on goal to lead the Dutchwomen. Senior Bryanne Panchuk finished with five shots.

Notes:
Christine Valente played in her 136th career game, tying her for first place all-time in Dutchwomen history.
