SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Union continues to find ways to win on the road.
For the second time in a week, Union pulled out a one-goal win, edging Springfield, 9-8, at Stagg Field Saturday afternoon. The fourth-ranked Dutchmen remain perfect on the year at 5-0.
Charlie Ross scored four goals and
Nolan Stauffer compiled a goal and three assists as Union completed a road sweep of non-conference opponents.
Springfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period before Union rallied by going on an 8-1 run. The Garnet opened their largest lead of the game (8-4) at the 4:41 mark of the third quarter on
Cam Slatton's goal.
Taking a 9-5 advantage in the fourth quarter, Union surrendered three straight goals to the Pride with Tony Laguerre scoring twice in a span of 54 seconds. Springfield had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but
Michael Froman forced a turnover, preserving Union's 20th win in 23 outings dating back to last season.
Paul Wehrum's squad will travel to Florida over Spring Break to take on Bard in the Liberty League opener next Saturday (March 21) in Boca Raton.
