OWINGS MILLS, MD -- Union used a 7-0 run over a 14:51 span while holding the Stevenson women's lacrosse team scoreless for 21:28 as the Mustangs dropped just their second home game in the last 11 contests, 16-7 Sunday afternoon at Mustang Stadium. The Dutchwomen improved to 2-1.
The Mustangs (4-5) totaled a season-low seven goals, the lowest since the team scored just four in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Second Round versus SUNY Geneseo on May 10, 2014.
Trailing 6-3 in the first half, Stevenson used a 3-0 run, led by back-to-back free position shots by Tori Wagner to tie the game at 6-6 with 8:39 remaining. However, a goal by Maggie Comiskey allowed the Dutchwomen to reclaim the lead, one they would not relinquish.
Union opened the second half with six-straight goals, including three by Emily McGrail, who finished the game with six goals. Cailin Pandolfi and Natalie Sullivan scored two goeals each for the Dutchwomen.
Stevenson was held to just one second half goal, a tally by Olivia Monteiro on an assisted from Carli Bafford. The Dutchwomen outscored the Mustangs 10-1 over the final 34:02. McGrail and Hailey Gould combined for 11 draw controls as Union held a 16-9 advantage, including 9-2 in the second half. The Dutchwomen also outshot Stevenson, 29-24.
Kim Grinhaus made 13 saves in the Union nets, while Maggie Lawder totaled a career-high 11 saves and three caused turnovers in 51:48 for Stevenson.
