Dutchwomen split league twinbill with Clarkson

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Camille Corbin had five RBIs in the two games as the Union College softball team split a Liberty League doubleheader with Clarkson University Thursday at Alexander Field. The Golden Knights came back for a 4-3 win in the opener while the Dutchwomen won the nightcap, 6-0.

Union is now 8-13 overall for the season and stands 3-3 in Liberty League play. Clarkson is 16-5 and 2-2 in the league.

In the first game, Corbin had a three run homer in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie, but Clarkson scored four times in the top of the seventh en route to the victory. Kate Scott had three hits for the Knights and Katelin Ferguson, Jamie Bridge and Raeanna Dunn had two hits each in the 12 hit attack. Five different Clarkson players drove in a run. Jamie Bridge got the victory, her ninth in 10 decisions. She gave up just one other hit besides the Corbin homer, and walked four while striking out 12 and allowing four earned runs. Allyson Staats took the loss for Union. The senior allowed 12 hits and five earned runs with three walks and struck out five.

Union scored two in the first and led 5-0 after three innings in the second game. Corbin had two RBIs and Courtney Casey, Dani Hennel, Molly O'Brien, Lindsay Cohen and Staats each had two hits. Staats recorded her fifth shutout of the season, and gave up just four hits, all singles by Clarkson. She did not walk a batter and struck out five and had retired 10 straight batters in the early innings as she earned her eighth win of the season.

The Dutchwomen return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a Liberty League doubleheader against St. Lawrence.
