Women's Lacrosse Upended by #2 Middlebury, 12-8

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College Dutchwomen saw their four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon as the Dutchwomen fell to #2 Middlebury 12-8.

After the Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:47 into the game, Union went on a 5-2 run over the following 18:23 to stake claim to a 5-3 lead. Natalie Sullivan found the back of the cage twice and Emily McGrail, Maggie Comiskey and Jackie Hagopian each scored once during the stretch.

Middlebury responded with seven unanswered goals in the next 13:51 from Bridget Instrum (twice), Mary O'Connell (twice) and once goal a piece from Katie Ritter, Bea Eppler and Alli Sciarretta. The Panthers also kept the Dutchwomen scoreless for a 19 minute period as Middlebury built a 10-5 lead.

Comiskey, McGrail and Hagopian each tallied their second goal of the contest down the stretch but Union could not cut the deficit closer than four for the remaining minutes as the Panthers came away with the victory.

Despite having an 11-7 edge in shots in the second half, the Dutchwomen were outshot 28-22 for the game and lost the draw control battle, 17-5. Union scooped up 21 groundballs compared to Middlebury's 15 led by Kim Grinhaus's five. Grinhaus also stopped 11 shots in the game.

The Dutchwomen return to action this Saturday as they host Liberty League-foe William Smith. The opening draw control is scheduled for 2pm from Frank Bailey Field.
