Union Captures Liberty League Semifinal, 12-11, in OT at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – With its season hanging in the balance, Union scored 1:47 into overtime to edge St. Lawrence, 12-11, in a Liberty League Semfinal game held on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium.  The 14th-ranked Dutchmen (13-3) will meet top-ranked RIT (17-0) at 12 p.m. Sunday in the Liberty League Championship Game.  The "U" is advancing to the title game for the fourth time in five years.

Adam Rosenthal feed Paul Alberti on the game-winner, a blistering shot from 10 yards out.  Stefan Basile made a pair of point-blank saves in overtime and intercepted a pass late in the game which eventually led to Tom Stanton's goal at the 2:41 mark to make it a 10-10 contest.

Alberti, incidentally, scored the game's first goal, 1:48 into the first quarter.  From that point, Union trailed most of the game, finally tying the contest at 9-9 with 6:32 left in regulation on Charlie Ross' fourth goal of the game. Ross, who owns a team-best 42 goals on the season, also extended his goal-scoring streak to 16 games.

Union pulled ahead 11-10 on Rosenthal's goal with 1:31 left, before the Saints forced overtime on Conor Healey's tally with 25 seconds remaing.

Connor Hall turned in a dominancing performance on faceoffs, winning 21-of-26 draws.

The win was the 500th men's collegiate win for Coach Paul Wehrum, who won 403 games in 24 years at Herkimer CC, to go along with 97 wins in nine seasons at Union.
