Union Falls to RIT in Liberty League Championship Game

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Appearing in its fourth Liberty League Championship in five years, Union College didn't have enough firepower to keep up with top-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology in a 25-14 loss Sunday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. RIT (18-0) earns the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with its fourth-straight title, while Union (13-4) awaits word about a possible at-large berth.  The tournament field will be announced at 9:00 p.m. Sunday night. Union's 14 goals were the most scored against the Tigers this season.  Peter Richardson (three goals, two assists) and Nolan Stauffer (two goals, three assists) turned in five-point efforts, while Richard Gregory added four points (two goals, two assists) and Adam Rosenthal three points (two goals, assist).  Charlie Ross scored his team-leading 43rd goal of the season and extended his goal-scoring streak to 17 games.  Connor Hall finished with 19 faceoff wins and a team-high 10 ground balls.

Ross, Hall, and
Paul Alberti were named to the Liberty League All-Tournament Team.

The 14th-ranked Dutchmen slowed the tempo with a possession game early in the first quarter, opening a 3-1 lead behind goals from Ross, Rosenthal and Stauffer.  RIT responded with its quick-strike offense, and spurred by Ryan Lee's 50th goal of the season, scored five goals in a span of four minutes, 21 seconds.  The Tigers never trailed from that point, scoring 11 goals in the second quarter and building a 17-9 lead at halftime.

RIT's Matt Hossack tallied six goals to earn tournament MVP honors. Allister Warren (four goals), Kyle Aquin and Kyle Sterzin also recorded hat tricks for the Tigers.
