SCHENECTADY, NY—The Union College volleyball team closed play at the Union Invitational with a five-set victory over SUNY Oneonta and a five-set loss to St. Michael's College (a DII institution).
Rachel Wyman led the way of the hitters with 35 kills and a .294 hitting percentage today. While
Amanda Price racked in 90 assists and
Katherine Moeller grabbed 48 digs.
The Dutchwomen defeated Oneonta 25-16, 21-25, 11-25, 25-18, 15-13. The "U" made all the right decisions to win the set, but Oneonta made some imperative corrections to grab the second and third set. Union wasn't ready to give up on the match as they battled down and won the last two sets decisively.
About an hour and a half later, the Dutch took the court against Division II St. Michael's College. The Purple Knights and the Dutchwomen battled back and forth, before dropping the first set 23-25. Union rallied back and made some key plays to win the second set 25-22. St. Michael's and Union split the next two sets (21-25, 25-19) to force Union's fourth fifth-set of the weekend. Wyman's three consecutive kills couldn't give Union the lift they needed to beat St. Michael's as they dropped the fifth set 15-8.
The Dutchwomen continue at home as they face Middlebury on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7p.m., at the Viniar Athletic Center.
