NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz posted a home win on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the North Turf Field, downing Union College by a 6-0 final.
The Hawks finished with a 33-0 total in shots and a 29-0 cushion in penalty corners.
New Paltz rises to 5-1 overall with the win. Union drops to 2-2 with the loss and visits Elms College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Samantha Ackerman opened scoring in the sixth minute, as she buried a rebound that came off a blocked shot from her sister, Dani Ackerman. Rachel McLaughlin added to the lead in the ninth minute, pushing the ball from the left-hand side of the circle to the right-hand side of the goal, and junior Kayla McKeveny scored 1:50 later to make it a three-goal game.
Despite numerous New Paltz scoring chances throughout the remainder of the first half, the Union defense was able to prevent the Hawks from padding their lead before the intermission.
After scoreless play to open the second half, Jessica Caruana netted her first score of the season in the 60th minute off a pass from McLaughlin. Serena Capsello tipped in a feed from Dani Ackerman in the 63rd minute before Caruana scored off a McLaughlin pass on a corner in the 69th minute to spell the final score of 6-0.
Neither Alayna Wageman or Megan Gangewere were tested for the Hawks, while
Angelina Stewart turned aside 14 shots for the Dutchwomen. Freshman back
