CHICOPEE, MA -- Hannah Madden scored two goals and added an assist to lead visiting Union College to a 6-0 non-conference field hockey win over host Elms at Leary Field. The Blazers move to 0-6 on the season, while Union improved to 3-2 overall.
After six minutes of scoreless play opened the match, the Dutchwomen cracked the scoreboard at the 6:14 mark as Madden had her initial shot denied by goalkeeper Samantha Alvino but grabbed the loose ball and chipped a shot over Alvino's head to grab a 1-0 lead for Union. Elms held the Dutchwomen off the board for the next 16 with strong defensive play until Alexis Steriti found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to make it a 2-0 game. Just over five minutes later, Madden swung a pass to Sayyida Hasan, who placed into the back of the open goal, increasing the Dutchwomen lead to 3-0 heading into the intermission.
Union opened the second half scoring with a tally from Angelina Stewart, off a feed from Rachel Andreana to put Union up 4-0. In the 59th minute, the Dutchwomen converted off a penalty corner as Laura Pacheco fired home a pass from Andreana, upping the lead to 5-0. Madden later scored on a rebound off a shot from the point, sending Union to a 6-0 win.
The Dutchwomen dominated the shot column, 47-0, during the contest. Alvino made a career-high 30 saves in the loss, while Union Courtney Casey played 70 minutes but did not have to make a save.
