Madden leads Dutchwomen to 4-1 win over Ramapo

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Hannah Madden scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Union College field hockey team to a 4-1 non-league victory over Ramapo College at Frank Bailey Field Wednesday night. The Dutchwomen improved to 4-2 while the Roadrunners stand 1-6.

Alexi Steriti and Kelsey Masselli also scored for Union, which outshot the guests, 14-9. Union also had an 11-8 corners advantage, including 8-3 in the second half. Laura Aptowitz made three saves in the Dutchwomen nets while Emily Kramer stopped four for the Roadrunners.

Melissa Choka opened the scoring and gave Ramapo a 1-0 lead at 15:04. She got a pass from the left side of the net from Megan Quinlan and tallied her second of the season. Madden tied it with her fourth of the year just 2:32 later. Sayyida Hasan made a pass from the middle and Madden tapped in the tying score. Masselli scored her first career goal as the freshman got a deflection in front and pass from Madden at 28:22 for the 2-1 lead.

Union added insurance just 45 seconds into the second half. Madden's fifth of the year was unassisted as she scored from the right post. Steriti's fourth of the fall came on a penalty stroke at 48:49 to provide the eventual 4-1 final.

Union opens Liberty League play Saturday at the University of Rochester at 4:00 p.m.
