ROCHESTER, NY –Tiffany White and Nancy Bansbach scored four minutes apart in the first half as the University of Rochester defeated Union College, 2-0, in field hockey at Edwin Fauver Stadium Saturday afternoon.
It was the opening Liberty League match of the season for both squads. Rochester improved to 7-2 overall, 1-0 in the Liberty League. The Yellowjackets are ranked No. 20 in the current Division III coaches' poll. Union College is 4-3 overall, 0-1 in the league. Rocheste rhad 33 shots in the contest and 19 penalty corners.

Laura Aptowitz was outstanding, tying her career high with 15 saves. The Dutchwomen also got a defensive save from
Lindsay Barson. Tara Lamberti picked up the shutout for Rochester. She was not required to make a save.
Steady Rochester pressure eventually led to a goal and a 1-0 lead at 26:16. Michelle Relin hit a strong shot from the top of the circle. It struck Bansbach and rolled towards the cage where White tipped it just inside the right post.
At 30:56, Bansbach made it 2-0. Claire Dickerson carried the ball down right wing and just before she reached the endline, she lined a pass into the center of the circle where Bansbach was there to drive it home.
Union returns to Bailey Field to open a three game homestand beginning Tuesday, September 29 when the Dutchwomen host Morrisville State at 6 p.m.
