Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Faber and Fontaine Lead Victory Over Western Connecticut State

DANBURY, CT.—The Union College men's soccer team extends their record to 5-1-1 after defeating Western Connecticut State 3-1 on Wednesday evening.

Carl Faber led the way with two goals both assisted from Andrew Fontaine and Ethan Strauss placed his fourth goal of the season, which was the game-winning goal for the Dutchmen.

Union started slow as WCSU scored less than three minutes into the game.  The first half remained scoreless for the remaining 42 minutes. The Dutch outshot the Colonials 11-2 and had a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks, though Western Connecticut State led 1-0.

After 10 minutes, Union's Fontaine hurled a pass that Faber redirected it to the back of the net that equalized the score 1-1.  With 20 minutes remaining in the second half, the duo found each other again off Fontaine's right side corner kick as it split two Western defenders and Faber was able to score to make lift the Dutchmen to a 2-1 lead.

Less than a minute later, Strauss broke past three Western defenders and found the net empty, to score the third and game-winning goal for Union.

The Dutchmen return home to open conference play against Hobart on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m., at the Turf at College Park.
