Dutchwomen lose at FDU Florham, 2-1

FLORHAM, NJ -- The Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham field hockey team had a 2-1 lead at halftime and it held up for a non-league victory at home against Union College at Robert Shields Field Saturday afternoon. The Devils improved to 3-0 on the young season while the Dutchwomen fell to 1-1.

The Devils had a 24-4 shot advantage but Union's Laura Aptowitz was solid in net with 15 saves. The hosts had 23 corners to Union's four and Amy Defnet made two stops for FDU-Florham.

Alexi Steriti opened the scoring just 2:32 into the game to give Union a 1-0 lead. She got a pass from Hannah Madden for the early lead. But Chrissy Penney knocked in a rebound at 10:44 to tie the contest. Erin O'Connell's goal at 18:34 of the first half proved to be the game winner and last score of the day, and Kim Davis earned an assist.

Union returns to action on September 12 when the Dutchwomen host Drew University at 1 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
