Union Plays to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw on the Road

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the second time in a week, Union settled for a double overtime tie, playing to a 1-1 decision at Rochester in nonconference action from Fauver Stadium. The Dutchwomen still own an 8-4-3 edge all-time versus the YellowJackets.

Captain Breana Derella scored her 10th career goal on a shot from the left side (15 yards out) to give Union a 1-0 lead at the 20:40 mark.  Katie Monahan registered her first point of the season with an assist on the play.  Union managed just five total shots on the night, including two on goal, in a defensive battle.

On the other side of the pitch, Rochester took 11 total shots and pulled even in the 70th minute when Lee Stagg blasted a shot from 20 yards out that caromed under the cross bar and bounced down over the goal line.  UR recorded three shots on goal, finishing with a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Union looks ahead to its home opener this Wednesday (Sept. 9), hosting SUNY Plattsburgh under the lights at College Park Field.  Start time is 7:00 p.m.

Notes: Playing in 80 degree weather, coach Brian Speck went to his bench often, using 21 players in the game.
