SCHENECTADY, N.Y.-Colgate struck for three third-period goals to earn a 4-2 ECAC Hockey win against the Union College men's ice hockey team, Friday night at Messa Rink.
The Dutchmen go to 9-8-5 overall and 2-7-2 in ECAC Hockey, while Colgate moves to 7-14-1 overall and 3-6-1 in league play.
Brett Supinski and
Nick DeSimone each tallied for Union, while
Connor Light,
J.C. Brassard,
Jeff Taylor and
Ryan Scarfo each had an assist. In goal,
Alex Sakellaropoulos stopped 23 of 26 shots.
Tim Harrison led Colgate with a pair of goals, Tylor Spink and Tyson Spink added a goal each and Adam Dauda dished out two helpers. In goal, Charlie Finn made 30 saves, including 13 in the second period, on 32 shots for his sixth win of the season.
Supinski gave Union a 1-0 lead with the team's fastest goal of the season, opening the scoring 49 seconds into play on a delayed penalty call. Light's shot from the from the point was blocked in front of the Colgate net and Supinski collected the rebound at the bottom of the left faceoff circle, beating a sprawling Finn on high on the blocker side.
Colgate responded just 21 seconds, as Harrison converted on a short-handed breakaway to tie it at 1-1.
The Dutchmen pulled back in front with another quick goal to start the second. DeSimone took a feed from
Jeff Taylor and blasted a one-timer from the blueline for his second tally of the season 2:30 into the frame.
The Raiders battled back midway through the third, taking a 3-2 lead with two goals in a 16-second span. Harrison potted his fifth of the year on the power play, sliding home a shot from the top of the crease and Tyson Spink jammed in a rebound at 11:20 for his 10th of the year.
Tylor Spink sealed the win with an empty net goal with 11 seconds remaining.
Union outshot Colgate 32-27, including a 14-6 advantage in the second period. The Raiders finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Dutchmen were 0-for-2.
Union returns to the ice at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, hosting #7/8 Cornell.
Notes:Union has conceded four short-handed goals in its last four games and is 15-for-23 on the penalty kill over its last five...
