SCHENECTADY, NY—The Union College women's ice hockey team fell 3-1 to Cornell on Friday evening at Messa Rink.
Cornell's Jess Brown scored the first two goals of the game. On the first goal, Brown stole it from boards and went face on versus Union's goalie
Melissa Black. Black made the save and it rebounded back to Brown who chipped it in on the left side.  On the second goal, Micah Hart took a shot from the right side, it ricocheted off the left post to Brianna Veerman. Veerman took it around the back of the net and passed it to Brown who was in the right faceoff circle, she took a shot and it bounced in from the goaltender's left corner. Union was able to hold Cornell scoreless for the rest of the first period.
In the second period,
Jacyn Reeves scored Union's first goal and her first power-play goal of her career. Just 1:03 into the second,
Elizabeth Otten passed to
Kathryn Davis in the right faceoff circle. Davis took a shot and Reeves got the rebound, she then chipped it in the right side. The Big Red countered with a power-play goal. Hart passed the puck around the back of the net off to Lenka Serdar who took a shot from the right side of the net. Serdar's shot rebounded to Diana Buckley who poked it in through the five-hole.
Union and Cornell stayed scoreless through the third period.
The Dutchwomen blocked eight shots, while Black tallied 29 saves.
Union hosts #10 Colgate at Messa Rink in the 9th annual Pink at the Rink game tomorrow, January 30 at 4 p.m.
