SCHENECTADY, NY— The Union College women's ice hockey raised $1290 at the Pink at the Rink game. Union fell 1-0 to No. 10 Colgate on Saturday afternoon. The team totaled $3620 for Kristen's Kause over this week.Â
Melissa Black tallied her 900th save in the third period and ended the game with 39 saves. Union went 3-for-4 on the penalty kill unit.
In the first period, the Dutchwomen and Raiders battled head to head, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. With 11.3 seconds to go Black stopped a power-play goal on her back. Both teams posted six shots on goal.
Kathryn Tomaselli took a shot with 13:38 remaining in the second period, which was only three inches off the Colgate's goaltender Ashlynne Rando left post. Cornell's Jessie Eldridge took a shot from the left faceoff circle to Breanne Wilson-Bennett who was stationed on the right side of the goal. Wilson-Bennett chipped it in on the right side to go up 1-0 with 6:32 remaining in the second.
Union held Colgate scoreless for the entirety of the third period. The Raiders were only able to get off 12 shots.
The Dutchwomen go on the road to take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence next weekend. Union faces St. Lawrence on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Â
