Women's soccer blows past John Jay, 9-0

NEW YORK, NY—Junior midfielder Sydney Keane had a career-high five points and sophomore midfielder Nicole Sturno produced a career-best three assists to lead the Union College women's soccer team to a 9-0 win against John Jay College, Saturday evening at Randall's Island Field.

The Dutchwomen (5-3-2) extend their unbeaten streak to seven (5-0-2), matching the program's longest unbeaten streak since the first seven games of the 2012 season. The nine goal win also marked Union's largest of margin of victory since a 13-0 win against SUNY Maritime on Spe.t 1, 2010.

Keane put the Dutchwomen in front four minutes into play and Michelle Staples doubled the lead a minute later.

Katie Monahan made it 3-0 in the 13th minute, converting on a breakaway for her third goal of the season and her second in as many games.

Allie Supranowicz extended the lead to 4-0 with her first of the year from a Sturno corner, and after Keane added her second contest in the 36th minute, Victoria Marotta closed out the scoring for the half, tallying on a penalty kick in the 39th minute.

The second half proved to be more of the same, as Aly Leahy scored four minutes into the second half to push the lead to 7-0.

First-Year Tristan Kijak potted the final two goals of the game for her first career goals and first career points. Keane notched her fifth point of the day with an assist on Kijak's first goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Hartsoe earned her fifth shutout of the season and her fifth in the last seven games, stopping both shots she faced.

The Dutchwomen outshot the Bloodhounds 27-2 and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Union returns to Liberty League play at RIT on Saturday, Oct. 8.
