Volleyball Grabs Two Wins on Senior Night

SCHENECTADY, NY - It was senior night in Viniar Athletic Center as Lauren Gibson, Ally VanDoren, Alyssa Bonesteel, Katherine Moeller, Amanda Price and Morgan Clark were all honored before Union College's second match of Friday night against St. Lawrence University.

In their final two home Liberty League matches, the seniors went out in style winning both of their matches against Vassar College and St. Lawrence clinching their place in the league playoffs.

Vassar came into its match against Union atop the Liberty League standings with only one loss in conference. After dropping the first set 25-22, the Dutchwomen took control of the match winning the next two sets 25-17 and 25-21 as Bonesteel had five kills in the third set while adding three in the fourth. Bonesteel finished the match with a team high 15 kills.

After losing the fourth set, the match was all knotted at 2-2. The final set was tight throughout as it was 13-12 Union before a kill by VanDoren and a double blocked by Alaina Thaxter and Bonesteel claimed the match for the Dutchwomen.

Union continued the momentum into the next match as the team hit .577 in its first set against St. Lawrence in which the Dutchwomen did not record a single attack error. With the score tied at 7-7, Brianne Hallock stepped to the service stripe. Union would record the next 10 points to take a 17-7 lead in the set. The run included three aces from Hallock.

The first frame set the tone for the match as the Dutchwomen went on to sweep the Saints (25-11, 26-24, 25-17). VanDoren recorded a team high 12 kills while Moeller's team high 15 kills helped Union hold down the St. Lawrence offense to .112 attack percentage.

Union is back on the court tomorrow as it plays Clarkson and Bard at Skidmore.
