#15 Hamilton field hockey wins 6-1

CLINTON, NY -- The nationally ranked No. 15 Hamilton College field hockey team wrapped up the regular season Tuesday night with a 6-1 win over the visiting Union Dutchwomen at Goodfriend Field. Hamilton finished the regular season 11-4.

Michaela Giuttari had a hand in Hamilton's first three goals and the Continentals outshot Union (4-12 overall) 35-13 in winning their fifth straight.

Giuttari sparked the hosts to an early 2-0 lead, contributing to a pair of goals in just over a minute and a half. She opened the scoring 4:50 into play by intercepting a clearing pass and driving in alone before putting a shot into the net.  A penalty corner 1:45 later led to goal number two for Hamilton. Giuttari wound up with possession at the near post and sent a pass to the far post that Margaret Revera tipped in.

A Union goal by Stephanie Resnick midway through the opening period pulled the visitors to within 2-1 but the Continentals scored three times in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Giuttari scored her second unassisted goal of the evening six minutes in, collecting her 12th goal of the season after being left alone in the circle.

Eva Rosencrans added a goal off a penalty corner about seven minutes later. She received a pass from Emma Anderson  – who'd taken the corner to start the play – in front of the net and beat Union goaltender Laura Aptowitz. Aptowitz finished with 14 saves.

With just over 25 minutes left, Rosencrans fed Tatiana Bradley with a well-placed centering pass to the right post. The game's final goal came on a shot from a wide-open Sammy Johnson, who collected her first collegiate point after taking a lead pass from Tori Stapleton.

Julia Booth stopped four shots in goal for Hamilton. Liz Wagenbach and Sarah Kane each made a defensive save late in the first half when Union put together its best scoring chances. The visitors capitalized on one with 6:36 left in the half, using a penalty corner to close to within a goal. Alexa Steriti sent the ball into the scoring circle, where Rachel Adreanna sent it to Resnick. Resnick's shot was initially stopped but trickled into the far corner of the net.

Union closes out the 2016 season on Saturday when the Dutchwomen face SUNY Cortland for Senior Day at 1 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
