POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Senior center back
Mead Binhammer netted the lone goal for the Union College men's soccer team in a 2-1 loss to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY Wednesday afternoon.
Binhammer's goal came in the 40th minute with the Dutchmen down 1-0. After a Union free kick was fumbled by the Brewers goalkeeper, Binhammer came in and took advantage of the Vassar error.
The goal tied the game headed into the halftime interval. For much of the second half, the game remained knotted at one a piece as Adam Warner made three saves to keep the Dutchmen from taking the advantage.
In the 81st minute, the breakthrough for Vassar finally came as a Union foul in the box set up a penalty kick opportunity for the Brewers. Tanner Sands stepped up to the spot and beat Dutchmen keeper
John Weitzman, who made two saves in the game.
Union's final regular season game comes Saturday when it travels to Skidmore. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
