Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Devins Nets First of Year in Loss to Cornell

SCHENECTADY, NY -  After a shot from junior defenseman Caitlyn McLaren from the top of the left circle, Union College women's hockey captain Alli Devins would punch home the rebound for her first goal of the season.

The senior forward and Vermontville, NY native netted the lone Dutchwomen (2-8, 0-2 ECACH) goal of the game as Cornell University (3-1, 1-1 ECACH) came out of Messa Rink with a 3-1 victory.

Amelia Murray made her collegiate debut in the garnet sweater starting in net for Union. Murray would have a solid debut as she tallied 38 saves on 41 total shots from the Big Red.

The pressure from Cornell started early as Murrary had to make 17 saves in the opening period. The breakthrough came just past the midway of the first period as Lenka Serda final put one past the Union netminder off of assists from Jaime Bourbonnais and Pippy Gerace.

Cornell would hold the 1-0 into the early second period before the Big Red would add to it as Kristin O'Neill found the puck on her stick off of a turnover. She took the puck and buried the shorthanded chance to give her team a 2-0 edge at the 2:33 mark of the second period. This is the first shorthanded goal the Dutchwomen have allowed this season

The final Big Red goal came in the third as O'Neill found Kaitlin Doering who carried the puck into the attacking zone before firing a wrist shot past Murray.

Union is back on the ice next weekend as they travel to Providence, RI as it takes on Brown on Friday (Nov. 4). Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
