ONEONTA, NY – Scoring twice in less than a minute-span, freshman Maria Stalder powered the host Hartwick field hockey team, 2-0, over non-conference opponent, Union, on Tuesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The freshman netted two of her four shots to secure Hartwick with the win. The Hawks improve to 8-3 overall. The loss drops Union to 3-7.
Stalder's second goal occurred at 42:20. Using a Sarah Ryan penalty corner, the team's eighth, she ultimately would connect for the goal to reward the Hawks the 1-0 advantage.
Within a minute later, Ryan drove along the end line and dished the ball to Stalder. Through several defenders, Stalder fired a shot that was blocked. She rebounded the initial miss and this time, the ball found back of the net.
The Dutchwomen outshot the Hawks, 15-13 with
Hannah Christian in their forefront with four. The Hawks would tally more penalty corners, 20-7.
Senior keeper, Shannon Carter added nine saves to her resume. The opposing goalie,
Laura Aptowitz, stopped six.
Hannah Christian led Union with four shots and
Charlotte Leyland had three for the Dutchwomen.
Union will host St. Lawrence Saturday in Liberty League action at 4:30 p.m.
