Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 11/12 Michigan tops men's hockey, 4-0

ANN ARBOR, MICH.—The Union College men's hockey team was shutout by No. 11/12 Michigan, 4-0, Saturday evening at the Yost Ice Arena. The Dutchmen go to 1-1-0 on the season, while the Wolverines also move to 1-1-0.
 
James Sanchez led the Michigan offense with a pair of goals and Max Shuart had two assists. In goal, Hayden Lavigne stopped all 27 shots he faced for his first career shutout.
 
Niko Porikos gave Michigan a 1-0 lead at 15:49 of the first, firing home a low shot from the top of the right circle. The Wolverines doubled their lead at 19:45 when Piazza's fluttering shot from the point found a way past Union goaltender Jake Kupsky.
 
Sanchez made it 3-0 at 11:34 of the second, converting on a shorthanded breakaway for his first career tally.  His second of the night came two minutes in the third period on an uncontested shot from the slot following a Union turnover deep in its defensive zone.
 
Union outshot Michigan 31-27 and finished 0-for-5 on the power play. The Wolverines also went scoreless with the man advantage, going 0-for-3.  Kupsky made 23 saves on 27 shots.

Union travels to American International College for a 7 p.m. contest Friday, Oct. 14 before taking on Sacred Heart University at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15.
