Russ Scores as Union Falls to No. 7/6 Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY - First year forward Katelynn Russ found the back of the net for the second time in her young career as the Union College women's hockey team fell to No. 7/6 Clarkson.

After falling behind 2-0, the Dutchwomen found themselves on the powerplay midway through the second period. Off of a Clarkson turnover Emily Erickson found Katelynn Russ right in front and Russ picked her spot and scored to cut the score to 2-1 at the 11:27 mark.

It looked as though that score would hold going into the second intermission. The Golden Knights' Cassidy Vinkle had other ideas as she found the back of the net for the first time this season to make it 3-1 with just 1:30 remaining in the period.

Clarkson would continue to add to its lead in the third as at the 6:27 mark Taylor Turnquist found the puck on her stick down low and jammed home the chance to make it 4-1. Josaine Pozzbon capped off the 5-1 Golden Knight win with an empty net goal with under a minute to play in the game.

Kate Spooner made 35 saves in the losing effort for Union.

The Dutchwomen will be back on the ice tomorrow afternoon as they face No. 4/4 St. Lawrence in Canton, NY at 3:00 p.m. The Saints defeated RPI 4-1 Friday night.
