MADISON, N.J. – The Union College men's basketball team defeated the FDU-Florham by a score of 75-67 Thursday.
Deshon Burgess led the Dutchmen with 26 points and eight boards, helping the Dutchmen move to 2-3. FDU dropped to 2-3 on the short season.
With the Devils trailing 12-8, sophomore
Anthony Mitchell finished off a 7-0 spurt with a three to put the host on top 15-12. The Dutchmen came back to go up seven, but Burgess rolled off four straight to stretch the lead to double-digits. A trey by freshman
Rajaan Dixon and a free throw by Davy helped FDU end the first with four straight markers, sending the team down seven heading into the break.
Davy and sophomore
Derek Leohner hit back-to-back layups to bring the gap down to five with 17:39 left in the second half, but Burgess hit another layup with 9:54 left sending Union back to a double-digit lead. FDU hit four free throws, finished with a pair of Davy to get within four, but that was as close as they could get.
Greg King finished with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting while
Kevin Weckworth added 14 points sinking 6-of-10 free throws.
Mitchell finished the game with 23 points to go along with three helpers, including 4-of-6 shooting from three. Senior
Donte Ali had 11 points and eight boards, while junior
Veon Lassiter had six points and two rebounds.
Sophomore
Darren Davy notched a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The Dutchmen are back in action Dec. 8th, hosting Ithaca College at 7 p.m.
