NCAA stat notes on McNamara
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard
Wade McNamara had a career night with personal bests of 37 points and 21 rebounds to lead Union College to a 91-77 home win over Ithaca College at the Viniar Athletic Center Thursday night. The Dutchmen evened their season record at 3-3 while the Bombers fell to 4-4.
McNamara added four assists, a steal and a block and already had his second career double double at halftime when he scored 18 points with 11 boards. He made 13 of 27 field goal attempts overall and was eight for nine at the line.
Kevin Weckworth had a season high 20 points and
Deshon Burgess scored nine with seven rebounds. Union shot 40% for the game and out rebounded the Bombers, 50-38.
Marc Chasin had a double double of his own for Ithaca with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Joey Flanagan led the guests with 21 points. Matt Flood added 11 points for Ithaca, who also shot 40% but was held to 24% shooting in the second half.
The teams were tied at 46-46 at halftime, but Ithaca had two nine point leads including 24-15 with 11:22 left. Union was up by five at 35-30 with 4:40 left in the first half. In the second, Ithaca led 53-52 with 16:55 left after a layup by Flanagan. But Union then went on a 14-2 run in the next 5:05 led by five points by McNamara. Union led by as many as 20 with 1:04 left at 91-71.
The Dutchmen are right back on the court Saturday as they play at UNY Purchase at 2 p.m. Ithaca also plays on the road at 2 p.m. Saturday, taking on Hobart.

- McNamara's 37 points were the most by any Liberty League player this season.
- His 21 rebounds were the most by any Liberty League player this season.
- His 37 points were the most by a Union player since Keven Donohue '13 had 37 on 1/29/13 in a home win vs. RIT.
- He joined Justin Martin of Husson (who had 21 rebounds vs. Bates on 12/3/16) for the sixth most rebounds in a game by an NCAA Div. III player in 2016-17.
- He tied eight other NCAA Div. III players for the 23rd most points in a game in 2016-17.
- His 37 point, 21 rebound double-double was the highest point and rebound double-double by a Union player since William Hython '16 scored 34 points with 18 rebounds at RIT in an overtime loss on 1/12/16.
- This was the highest point and rebound double-double in regulation at Union since Rusmir Dzanko '12 scored 32 with 10 on 12/13/11 in a win at Utica.
- Only 18 other players in all of NCAA Div. I, II and III have recorded 21 or more rebounds in a game this season through December 8.
- The high rebound total in a game in the NBA through December 8 is JaMychal Green of the Memphis Grizzlies with 18.
